Residents of Taman Pusat Kepong are urging Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to install a pedestrian crossing with push button traffic signals at a busy junction along Jalan 1/40.
Kepong social activist Yee Poh Ping stated that the request was made due to the increasing traffic, which has become hazardous for both locals and foreign workers crossing from Jalan 4/40 to Jalan 5/32A, where several factories are located.
“Every morning, I witness people risking their lives by crossing the road.
“We propose DBKL’s Urban Transportation Department to study our proposal to implement this essential safety measure,” he added.
Taman Pusat Kepong Residents Association chairman Tay Thiam Seng, 67, expressed his concerns as there are many road users coming from the 3,000 housing units in Jalan 4/40.
“During peak hours in the morning and evening, large groups of 10 to 15 foreign workers will cross the road, with many walking and others on bicycles.
“Luckily, no accidents have been recorded to date despite the daily danger posed by heavy traffic,” he said.
