The Melaka International Tattoo Convention, organized by Lydia Urmila Murty, recently took place at a leading hotel in the state and drew over 1,500 enthusiasts from Italy, Thailand, the Philippines, and Vietnam. According to Murty, the event showcased a variety of designs and artwork, including geometric designs, colorful motifs, and intriguing pieces. Murty also mentioned that body tattoos are an integral part of the indigenous culture in Sabah and Sarawak. She expressed her passion for promoting the love for this art form and believes it has the potential to become a tourist attraction.

    In addition, Murty believes that Melaka can attract world-class tattoo artists from around the globe. The recent convention aimed to create a positive outlook towards body art and appreciate tattoo artists. The event commenced with a welcome gathering at The Bella Donna, an outdoor cafe in the Portuguese Settlement at Ujong Pasir. There was also a three-day competition with an international panel of judges. The convention not only highlighted body art but also featured cultural and musical performances.
