KOTA KINABALU: On Thursday (Jan 25), a cafe employee in the Tawau district suffered the loss of her fingers after her right hand got stuck in a meat grinder.
The 22-year-old was in the process of putting meat into the grinder to create burger patties when the accident occurred.
Reports suggest that as she was pressing the meat down, her fingers got caught in the cutter part of the grinder.
Assistant director of operations for the Sabah Fire and Rescue Department, Kenneth Wilfred, indicated that they received a call about the incident at Taman Poh San Tawau around 1.50pm.
“Firemen had to cut open the grinder to free the victim’s hand. She lost all her fingers,” he said in a statement.
Following the rescue operation, the victim was taken to the hospital for treatment, and firemen concluded their operations at the scene at 3.20pm.
