PUTRAJAYA: The Communications and Digital Ministry, headed by Minister Fahmi Fadzil, will be drafting a bill that addresses the return of advertising expenditure from tech platforms to media organizations, according to Fahmi. He explained that the bill is crucial in order to prevent further job losses among media practitioners or the need for them to resort to voluntary separation schemes. In addition, the government plans to arrange a meeting with major tech giants such as Google, Meta, and TikTok to engage in discussions regarding this matter.

Fahmi stressed the significant impact that media organizations have experienced, with numerous workers being laid off. He emphasized that the government is taking this matter seriously and is committed to working on the drafting of a specific bill that ensures the return of advertising expenditure to media organizations in Malaysia.
