PORT DICKSON: A 37-year-old man who was captured in a clip assaulting his wife at a hotel here has claimed trial when charged at the Magistrate’s court.
Mohd Ridwan Mat Nasir pleaded not guilty after the charge was read to him before magistrate Uthman Abd Ghani.
The accused, a technician, was charged with committing the offence around 9.50am on May 24.
He was charged under Section 352A of the Penal Code for assault or using criminal force against his 38-year-old spouse.
Offenders can be fined up to RM2,000 or jailed up to six months or both upon conviction.
Prosecuting officer Insp Nor Asiah Mahmud then suggested bail of RM10,000 with one surety pending a remention of the case.
However, A. Krishnaveni from the Legal Aid Department, who represented the accused, asked for a bail of RM2,500.
Uthman then fixed bail at RM2,500 with one surety and ordered the accused to stay away from the victim until the case was disposed of.
He fixed July 23 for remention.
Police had obtained an order to remand the suspect on June 21 after a clip of the alleged assault went viral.
A day earlier, Port Dickson police chief Supt Aidi Sham Mohamed said the clip went viral on social media on June 19.
The victim, he said, suffered injuries on her cheeks and body aches.
