JOHOR BARU: A 15-year-old boy was attacked by a group of students in Taman Bestari Indah here, allegedly over a girl. The victim, who reported the incident at around 4pm on Monday (Aug 14), stated that he was kicked, punched, and stomped on by seven boys, resulting in injuries on his arms, thighs, abdomen, and throughout his body. The bullying occurred last Wednesday (Aug 9), around 3pm.
Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat confirmed that after receiving the police report, the authorities arrested the seven teenage boys, including a foreign national, in different locations in Johor Baru between 5.30pm and 9.34pm on the same day. The main suspect, who was upset that the victim became friends with his girlfriend, was 15 years old. ACP Raub added that all seven suspects, aged 14 to 17, and the victim were students.
The police plan to bring the suspects to the Johor Baru Magistrate’s Court to obtain a remand order under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code. They will be investigated under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting without weapons.
The incident came to light after a 59-second video clip of the attack circulated on social media. In the video, the victim is seen being thrown to the ground by several boys, who proceed to kick, punch, and stomp on him, while others are heard laughing loudly in the background. The boys can also be heard discussing a girl while taking turns attacking the victim.
