KOTA KINABALU: A teenage motorcyclist died after hitting a temporary cone placed as a road divider before crashing into two pedestrians along Jalan Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS)-Sulaman road here.
Kota Kinabalu OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Zaidi Abdullah said that the 19-year-old victim was pronounced dead at the scene by a medical officer in the 7.45am accident on Wednesday (Aug 2). He died of severe head injuries.
The two pedestrians – a mother and her son – were also injured after the cone flew and knocked the boy while being dragged by the motorcycle.
The boy suffered a fractured leg and hand while the mother who fell down suffered minor injuries, ACP Zaidi said.
He said both mother and son were being treated at the Sabah Women and Children Hospital in Likas here.
He said initial investigations showed that the motorcyclist was riding at high speed and had entered the closed-off lane of the road when he hit the cone.
He said the investigation was still ongoing under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act (APJ) 1987.
