An abuse victim with burn injuries on her head and body is currently recovering at a hospital in Segamat. The 18-year-old orphan, who was under the care of her older sister, received an unexpected visit from Segamat MP R. Yuneswaran on Tuesday (Sept 5).
According to Yuneswaran, the teenager sustained injuries on her face, ears, thighs, and buttocks after being assaulted with a hot fork and sickle. Despite still being traumatized by the incident, her condition is currently stable.
In a conversation with Yuneswaran, the victim mentioned that all her other family members are in Kedah. He assured her that he would assist her in reuniting with them if that is what she wants. Alternatively, if she chooses to stay in Johor, he will help find accommodations for her at a Welfare Department shelter. Ultimately, the decision is left to her.
A four-minute video displaying the extent of the injuries sustained by the teenager has gone viral on social media, generating anger and outrage among netizens.
In court on Sunday (Sept 3), the alleged abuser, a close family member in their 20s, pleaded not guilty to a charge of causing harm with a weapon under Section 324 of the Penal Code.
