The Terengganu Education Department has announced that students affected by the floods are allowed to attend school in regular clothes. Azman Othman @ Abdullah, the deputy director of the School Management Sector, assured that the department understands the challenges faced by flood victims and is committed to easing their burden.
Azman Othman @ Abdullah advised students to attend school when it reopens on Jan 2, even if their uniforms have been damaged or washed away by the floods. He also reassured them that if their stationery or books are damaged, they should still come to school, and if their textbooks are damaged, they can report to their class teacher.
Azman also mentioned that post-flood cleaning operations at schools are actively being carried out by the respective district Education Offices with the assistance of the local community. He stated that 32 schools, especially in the districts of Hulu Terengganu, Dungun, and Setiu, have been affected by the third wave of floods that started on Dec 24
Five schools were still operating as relief centers, including SK Durian Mentangau, SK Tanjung Pati, SK Padang Pulut, and SK Delong in Dungun, as well as SMK Merchang in Marang. As of 10am, 733 evacuees from 198 families were still at 13 relief centers in the districts of Marang, Kuala Nerus, and Dungun.
