Thailand Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin arrived in Malaysia on Wednesday for his first visit since assuming office on September 5. The special aircraft carrying Srettha and senior Thai officials landed at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) at 11.15 am. Welcoming Srettha were Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Mohamad Alamin and Thailand Ambassador to Malaysia Lada Phumas.
Srettha proceeded to pass by a static guard of honour consisting of 28 officers and personnel from the First Battalion of the Royal Ranger Regiment, led by Captain Raja Azri Syahir Raja Mohd Zulkifli. The prime minister’s official agenda includes an audience with Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah at the Istana Negara on the same day.
In addition, Srettha is expected to meet with Malaysia’s Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, to discuss bilateral relations and various issues of mutual interest at the regional and international levels. Malaysia and Thailand have been significant trading partners, with Thailand ranking seventh globally and third among ASEAN member states in terms of trade volume in 2022.
The total trade between the two countries reached RM122.03 billion (US$27.75 billion) in 2022, marking a 17.9% increase compared to RM97.55 billion (US$23.54 billion) in 2021, according to Bernama.
