A single mother and her five children are surviving on the income of their 15-year-old eldest child, according to Malaysia Nanban.
The mother, identified as Muniammah, 35, and her children have been living in a dilapidated wooden house in Kampung Hassan near Changkat Asa estate in Ulu Bernam for the past two weeks. They have no running water, electricity, or toilet.
The eldest brother, who is 15, works in a car workshop in the evenings after school, providing the family’s only source of income. The siblings are aged nine, seven, four, and one.
Muniammah, who is expecting her sixth child in a month, has been unable to obtain a birth certificate for her one-year-old.
The family received a visit from Hulu Selangor Samuga Nala Iyakkam chairman Subramaniam and Hulu Bernam Parivumikka Samuga Nala Iyakkam president Abdul Ghani Abdullah. The officials promised to assist the family in finding a better place to live and will also refer them to the Welfare Department.
