IPOH: Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad has emphasized that the judiciary should not be utilized as a political tool. He made this remark following the decision of the Kuala Lumpur High Court to grant a discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) to Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Saarani, who is the Perak Umno liaison chairman, stated that the judiciary institution has always been fundamental in maintaining a just and orderly system, and it is crucial to protect it from being manipulated for political gain.

He added, “Considering the 11 reasons for stopping the prosecution of all the charges against Ahmad Zahid, it is now necessary to clarify the credibility of the legislative institution, including the Attorney General’s Chamber (AGC) and Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).”

Saarani further emphasized that the unity government should set an example by granting complete independence to legal institutions in order to uphold justice and prevent the recurrence of political prosecution.

This statement was made on Monday (Sept 4).

The Deputy Prime Minister was granted a DNAA by the High Court for all 47 graft charges related to Yayasan Akalbudi funds.

Initially, the prosecution requested that the Umno president be discharged but not acquitted, as further investigations were required for the case.

Datuk Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar, the Deputy Public Prosecutor, presented 11 reasons for this decision, which included ensuring no miscarriage of justice and allowing authorities to conduct more comprehensive investigations.

Saarani, who is also the Perak Mentri Besar, expressed the party’s gratitude for the High Court’s decision.
