The famous ‘Raja Gelek’ singer Datuk M. Daud Kilau passed away at Hospital Teluk Intan on Monday (Dec 18). He was scheduled to have leg surgery for a bacterial infection, according to his eldest daughter, Noraini Muhammad Daud, 58. However, due to his declining health from various other complications, the surgery had to be postponed. These complications included bacterial infection in the blood, heart disease, diabetes, and kidney problems.
Noraini elaborated that her father had been unconscious since Sunday (Dec 17) morning and the doctors informed them that his health was deteriorating. He was admitted to the Hospital Teluk Intan ward last Tuesday. While he was there, he had days of consciousness and days of unconsciousness. Even when he was awake, his family couldn’t understand what he was saying.
The entire family was by his side when he passed away at around 4.30pm. His body was later ritually bathed and shrouded at HTI before being taken back home to Kampung Sungai Balai Baroh, Bagan Datuk. His wife, Datin Rohani Awang Ngah, declined to be interviewed because she was too distraught.
His grandson, Hasnor Ikram, confirmed the death of M. Daud Kilau, 85, on Instagram. “My grandfather Mohd Daud bin Kilau breathed his last just a moment ago. Al-Fatihah,” he said briefly.
