KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s firm stance in support of the Palestinian cause has made it the target of threats, indicating the effectiveness of Malaysia’s approach to the Israel-Palestine conflict, according to geostrategy expert Prof Dr. Azmi Hassan. He emphasized the need for Malaysian leaders to be vocal in advocating for the rights of the Palestinian people due to Israel’s open defiance of international law and humanitarian principles.
Prof Dr. Azmi Hassan, a Senior Fellow at Nusantara Academy for Strategic Research, stated that the statement made by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on October 27 aligned with the position of previous leaders who also seek an end to the aggression in the region. He clarified that Anwar’s vocal stance does not imply an intention to gain popularity but rather to bring Malaysia’s voice and position to the international stage.
Prof Dr. Azmi Hassan further urged Malaysians to take pride in leaders who dare to advocate for the country’s stance on important international issues. During a speech at the Malaysia Stands with Palestine rally on October 24, Prime Minister Anwar revealed that he had received threats from foreign countries in response to his outspoken support for the Palestinian cause.
Meanwhile, Danial Rahman, the chief executive officer of the Asian Strategy and Leadership Institute (ASLI), expressed that the prime minister’s support for the Palestinian people is not driven by a desire for popularity but rather represents a long-standing struggle. He emphasized that Anwar’s efforts reflect the concerns of Malaysians, who oppose the oppression faced by the Palestinians and condemn the violence inflicted by the Israeli government.
Danial further noted that Anwar’s strong statements, calling for worldwide unity against Israel’s violence towards Palestine, showcase Malaysia’s clear and unwavering stance on the global stage. – Bernama
