PETALING JAYA: A leaked letter from the Foreign Affairs Ministry revealed that three individuals from different Islamic non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in Malaysia have been listed on the United States’ Terrorist Screening Centre (TSC) by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
The leaked letter instructed that the three men should no longer be involved with Op Ihsan, an organization that oversees the delivery of humanitarian aid from Malaysia to the people of Palestine in Gaza.
Jismi Johari, the chairman of the Ops Ishan secretariat, confirmed that he had received the letter dated Feb 15, notifying him of the three individuals being listed on the TSC. He also expressed disappointment that the letter was leaked online, noting that it causes a misconception about the individuals and invades their privacy.
The Op Ihsan secretariat will be convening a meeting soon to discuss their next steps in response to this development. As a result of the leaked letter, Jismi stated that Op Ishan intends for all secretariat members to sign a non-disclosure agreement to prevent a similar incident in the future.
He also mentioned that the three individuals were not very involved in Op Ihsan’s operations, but they are still confirming the extent of their involvement. In light of this, Jismi advised all activists and NGOs to exercise caution when dealing with foreign individuals and organizations.
