Three teenagers are believed to have drowned in a river in Segari near Lumut, according to Muhamad Hanafi Mohamed Rasidi, operations commander for the Perak Fire and Rescue Department. A call for help was received at 3:26 pm on Monday, February 12.
The three boys, aged 14 and 16, had been fishing and swimming in Sungai Sempit in Kg Tanjung Batu Segari in Pantai Remis. Search and rescue efforts are underway, with surface searches being conducted at present. The river’s close proximity to an oil palm plantation and 2km distance from the main road are posing significant challenges, as transportation is limited to four-wheel drives and network connectivity is poor.
