The government is planning to introduce tidal flow lanes on the Sungai Besi – Seremban Expressway, from the Astro Junction up to 200m before the Smart Tunnel, in November this year. However, Transport Minister Anthony Loke announced that further studies would be conducted by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), the Royal Malaysia Police, and the Works Ministry through the Malaysian Highway Authority to assess the feasibility of implementation.
During a press conference at the Parliament building on October 12, Loke stated that “the government will conduct an online study to gauge the level of user satisfaction with the implementation of the tidal flow system in the Klang Valley. This study will later be presented to the Cabinet Committee on Traffic Congestion.
The decision to implement tidal flow lanes was made during the Cabinet Committee on Traffic Congestion meeting, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. In addition, Loke announced that three new bus lanes would be established around Kuala Lumpur and are expected to be operational in November this year. These lanes include Jalan Cheras – Loke Yew (11.5km), Jalan Kuching (5.7km), and Jalan Genting Klang (8.7km).
Furthermore, Loke mentioned that improvements would be made to the existing special bus lane along Jalan Ampang starting from October 16. The Transport Minister did not provide further details about the enhancements and extensions to the lane.
Overall, these initiatives are part of the government’s effort to address traffic congestion in Kuala Lumpur. The implementation of tidal flow lanes and the establishment of new bus lanes aim to improve traffic flow and provide efficient public transportation options in the city.
