PETALING JAYA: Telekom Malaysia (TM) has increased the monthly subscription fee for its Unifi Home 2Gbps plan from RM399 to RM428.90. However, the new pricing now includes a subscription to a standard Netflix plan, which allows users to watch on two devices simultaneously.
Aside from the Netflix subscription, the updated plan also offers the Unifi TV Ultimate Max package, granting access to 10 streaming apps like Disney+ Hotstar, BBC Player, and iQiyi. Additionally, subscribers will receive a free WiFi 6-certified Mesh device.
The 2Gbps plan, initially introduced in April at a subscription price of RM399, promised download speeds of up to 2Gbps and upload speeds of up to 1Gbps.
TM has also made adjustments to the pricing of its 1Gbps plan, introduced in April, now costing RM378.90 monthly instead of RM349. The revised package also includes a Netflix Standard subscription. Furthermore, users under this plan will receive a complimentary six-month speed upgrade to 2Gbps.
Current subscribers of these plans are eligible for the discounted price as long as they remain within their respective 24-month contracts, according to TM’s FAQ. New users, however, are not given the option to opt out of the additional Netflix subscription. Both plans come with a 24-month contract.
Regarding the speed experience, TM clarified that customers on the 2Gbps plan will enjoy an aggregated speed offering, where each LAN port will not exceed 1Gbps but with a combined bandwidth of 2Gbps. On the other hand, customers on the 1Gbps plan will experience the full 1Gbps speed.
Taking customer flexibility into account, TM also stated in its FAQ that customers can downgrade their plan, with the existing contract resetting to 24 months.
For customers who prefer Unifi plans without Netflix, plans are available starting from the 30Mbps plan priced at RM89 monthly.
In a related development, Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil recently announced that Internet package plans will become cheaper by September with the implementation of the Mandatory Standard on Access Pricing (MSAP).
