JOHOR BARU: Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, in his first comment on the acid attack against Selangor FC footballer Faisal Halim, says he has nothing to do with the incident.
The Johor Regent, who is also Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) football club owner, described the national footballer as a nice person and condemned the attack, calling the perpetrator a coward.
“Some are saying that TMJ is the mastermind but what has it got to do with me?
He said in the previous season, JDT defeated Selangor three times with 4-0, 4-0 and 2-0 scorelines.
“Faisal played in those games. So he is not a threat,” he said in a podcast during the Johor youth meet-up programme held at EduCity Indoor Arena here on Sunday (June 9).
Tunku Ismail would continue to voice out what he believes is right or wrong even if it comes from the government or any politician.
Faisal, who is currently recovering at home, was discharged after undergoing four operations and spending three weeks in hospital.
The national player suffered fourth-degree burns when he was splashed with acid at a shopping mall in Kota Damansara on May 5.
Earlier reports stated that the 26-year-old needs three to six months to recover before he can return to action.
