KUALA LUMPUR: The location of the landslide at Jalan E6, Taman Melawati on Tuesday (Oct 15) is one of 114 areas identified in Selangor’s Ampang Jaya district as red zones highly at risk of incidents.
Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said approximately 400 other areas have been categorised as orange zones, which are at risk of landslides.
“If we look at the soil structure, this area (Taman Melawati) is situated on limestone.

“From Hulu Klang to Batu Caves, this area has a long stretch of limestone, and when water flows through it for months, the risk of landslides increases,” he told a press conference after inspecting the scene on Wednesday (Oct 16).
The landslide occurred at 10.15am Tuesday after heavy rain, forcing residents of 20 houses there to evacuate the area.
Four houses and one car were affected by the landslide, with no casualties reported.

Amirudin, who is also Gombak MP, said the authorities have taken precautionary measures at other landslide-prone areas.
He also reminded Selangor residents, especially those in coastal areas, to prepare for the high tide phenomenon, which is expected to occur from Friday to Sunday (Oct 18 to 20). – Bernama
