In a tragic incident, a 23-year-old contractor from Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) lost his life after being run over by a jeep at KM83 on Jalan Kota Tinggi-Kluang in Kluang. The mishap took place at around 3pm on Saturday (July 15) and involved a jeep, a car, and a backhoe, according to Kluang OCPD Asst Comm Bahrin Mohd Noh.
The incident unfolded as two TNB workers, aged 22 and 23, were carrying out maintenance work by the roadside, alongside two drivers who had parked their car and backhoe at the location. A detailed investigation has revealed that a 26-year-old man driving a jeep from Kota Tinggi towards Kluang lost control of his vehicle upon reaching the site. The jeep collided with the parked car and backhoe before running over the two workers in the opposite lane, stated Asst Comm Bahrin Mohd Noh in a statement released on Sunday (July 16).
One of the workers, identified as Muhammad Hizran Aiman, 23, suffered fatal head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Meanwhile, the other worker, Amirul Haikal, 22, sustained minor injuries on his left arm and is currently receiving treatment at Kluang Hospital. Both drivers of the other vehicles involved in the incident emerged unscathed. The jeep driver, who tested negative for drugs, was arrested to assist with the ongoing investigations. The case is being probed under Section 41(1) of the Road and Transport Act of 1987.
