An engineer in China, surnamed Han, pretended to be a police officer conducting vice raids to scam sex workers out of money, according to Guang Ming Daily.
Han reportedly owed money to illegal moneylenders after suffering significant losses in an investment scheme.
After failing to secure a loan in Hangzhou in April, Han decided to try a different tactic.
On April 27, he contacted a middleman and arranged for a sex service.
Pretending to be conducting a raid, he used his supposed authority to coerce multiple sex workers into revealing their payment app passwords, through which he stole over 6,000 yuan (RM3,812) from them.
In a similar incident on May 9, Han repeated his scheme in Shanghai and swindled more than 50,000 yuan (RM31,845) from a woman.
The following day, Han was arrested and subsequently faced charges in court.
