Sunway Medical Centre, Sunway City (SMC) revealed a new aspect of healthcare at its community health event. The SunMed Carnival aimed to build connections among community members, healthcare professionals, and children of all ages. It showcased that a hospital can be more than just a place for treatment; it can also be a fun learning and knowledge-sharing hub. Dr Seow Vei Ken, CEO of SMC, stated that healthcare extends far beyond treating illnesses and that the carnival demonstrated the hospital’s commitment to prevention, education, and empowerment towards a healthy lifestyle.

The SunMed Carnival attracted over 1,900 attendees and featured family-friendly educational activities designed for children. It aimed to introduce them to the world of healthcare. Additionally, the event served as a platform to showcase the new Tower D at SMC, which is a one-stop center catering to the healthcare needs of infants, children, and adolescents. The tower includes the Children’s Emergency department, the first of its kind in a private hospital in Malaysia dedicated solely to children under 12 years old.

One of the highlights of the carnival was the ambulance tour, where children had the opportunity to ride on the lifesaving vehicle and learn about the role of ambulances and paramedics in patient care. The event also included arts and crafts workshops, a coloring contest, and educational games like a first aid kit quest and a body-organ match to teach children about the human body’s systems.

Attendees had access to various booths offering health and eye screenings, speech and hearing tests, spine assessments, and dietitian advice on healthy eating. Many participants, like Wong Ley Peng and his family from Subang Jaya, enjoyed the health screenings and educational activities like learning CPR at the ambulance tour. Elizabeth Jonathan and her three daughters also had a great time at the game stations, with one of them excelling at the coloring contest.
