Tourism Malaysia is intensifying efforts to attract more tourists from the Oceania region, with a specific focus on the New Zealand market, according to a Tourism Malaysia official.
Iskandar Mirza Mohd Yusof, the senior director of the International Promotion Division (America/Europe/Oceania) at Tourism Malaysia, stated that New Zealand is a crucial market.
He announced that Tourism Malaysia will be launching a week-long sales mission and tourism product seminar in Auckland, Sydney, Melbourne, and Adelaide, running from today until September 3rd.
“This initiative is a collaborative effort to bring together tourism operators, government representatives, and travel agents to engage with our partners in Oceania,” he said while welcoming passengers on a Batik Air flight from Auckland at Kuala Lumpur International Airport yesterday.
“We are excited to announce that Batik Air will be increasing its flight frequency to six weekly flights between Kuala Lumpur and Auckland,” he added.
Mirza Mohd Yusof also mentioned that Malaysia Airlines offers eight direct flights on the same route.
“Last year, Malaysia welcomed 18,000 tourists from New Zealand. This figure is expected to rise with the increased flight frequency and intensified promotional activities. Typically, tourists from New Zealand spend one to two weeks exploring the diverse offerings of Malaysia.
“As of June, Malaysia has already welcomed 17,972 visitors from New Zealand, showing promising growth compared to the previous year,” Iskandar Mirza noted.
Datuk Chandran Rama Muthy, the strategy director of Batik Air and Lion Group, stated that the KL-Auckland route underlines their strong commitment to providing convenient travel options.
The airline also offers New Zealanders “multiple services to explore beautiful destinations such as Penang, Langkawi, Kuching, and Kota Kinabalu,” he added.
“We hope tourists from New Zealand will take advantage of the reasonable rates,” Muthy expressed. Batik Air provides all-inclusive one-way promotional fares between KL and Auckland, with economy class tickets priced at RM1,619 and business class tickets at RM5,319, on their brand-new Boeing 737-8 aircraft.
