SIBU: The Tourism, Arts, and Culture Ministry will undergo a comprehensive restructuring process to ensure that only competent individuals are included, including agencies under its purview, according to Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, the Tourism Minister. Tiong emphasized the need for modification and strengthening within the ministry where weaknesses have been identified. He expressed his commitment to fulfilling the trust placed in him for the betterment of the country during his speech at The ministry’s Ngiling Bidai ceremony, which was delivered by his deputy, Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan.
Tiong, the Bintulu MP, stressed the importance of providing opportunities and space for eligible individuals who are dedicated to enhancing the Tourism Ministry. Although positions within the ministry and its agencies are open to the public, qualified personnel will be prioritized. Tiong gave an example of the director-general position at Tourism Malaysia, stating that he selected Datuk Dr Ammar Abdul Ghapar based on his belief in his ability to excel in the role and elevate Tourism Malaysia to new heights. However, if he fails to meet expectations, Tiong assured that the ministry will make a change and find a suitable replacement.
Tiong, the Dudong assemblyman, emphasized the need to be firm in this matter as it affects the interests of agencies, ministries, and the country as a whole. He firmly stated that if the people are not served well, those responsible should respectfully relinquish their positions. Tiong’s principle is simple: if one cannot perform, they should leave the ministry. He made it clear that he does not want passengers or excess baggage in his ministry.
