KOTA KINABALU: A Chinese tourist was fatally injured in a road accident in Sabah’s east coast Semporna district. The incident occurred at approximately 11.30am on Wednesday (Nov 1) when the tour bus carrying the 56-year-old victim and 14 other Chinese tourists collided head-on with a lorry. The bus was en route to Tawau district’s airport from Semporna, while the lorry was traveling in the opposite direction. The crash transpired at KM21 Jalan Semporna-Tawau when the lorry unexpectedly swerved into the opposite lane and struck the bus. In a statement issued late Wednesday, Semporna Police Chief Supt Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah explained that the collision resulted in the tour bus veering off the road and overturning on the side of the roadside. Sadly, the accident claimed the life of one of the tourists, while the remaining 14 Chinese nationals, including five women, escaped unharmed. The lorry driver sustained a broken leg and was promptly taken to Tawau hospital for treatment. The deceased’s body has been transported to Semporna hospital.
