KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has called for responsible reporting in the ongoing probe into alleged bribery at the nation’s entry points. MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki addressed concerns raised by a local media portal’s recent report, asserting that, as of the sixth day of investigation, it’s premature to draw any conclusions. He emphasized that there are witnesses yet to be interviewed and cautioned against sensationalizing the matter with unverified sources.
Azam stated, “We are committed to a comprehensive investigation. Once concluded, we will refer the case to the public prosecutor or the Attorney General for a determination on any potential bribery elements,” as reported by Bernama.
On Wednesday, Azam disclosed that statements from 14 individuals had been taken, encompassing two Chinese nationals, Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, eight immigration officers, and various other witnesses. Furthermore, the MACC will also scrutinize parties responsible for handling individuals served with “Not to Land” (NTL) notices. – Bernama
