GEORGE TOWN: The identity of the Singaporean tourist who lost their life in the van accident at Bukit Genting on Sunday (Sept 24) has been revealed. Penang tourism and creative economy committee chairman, Wong Hon Wai, informed the media that the deceased individual was Lee Kwee Yiam, aged 62. Wong stated that the tour company provided them with this information in a text on Monday (Sept 25).
During a press conference, Wong disclosed that the victim’s body is currently at the Hospital Balik Pulau mortuary, awaiting a post-mortem examination. He also revealed that three of the injured individuals were transferred to a private hospital, while four were admitted to the General Hospital. Additionally, three other accident victims have been discharged.

Wong informed the media that he has reached out to the Singaporean High Commission in Kuala Lumpur to determine what assistance the state government can provide for the victims.
At around 8pm, a van carrying ten tourists from Singapore skidded and fell into a ravine at Bukit Genting. The van reportedly slid off the road and dropped over 6 meters into the ravine. The rescue operation was concluded by 10.26pm.
