The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) has received 876 online public feedback responses for consideration in the preparation of its 2024 Budget.
Petaling Jaya mayor Mohamad Azhan Md Amir announced that MBPJ invited the public to share their views online from July 17 to Aug 4 during a town hall session.
According to him, they received 133 suggestions from 35 individuals.
“In preparing the 2024 Budget, MBPJ will prioritize project continuity and new projects based on current needs,” he stated.
“Providing basic necessities and quality infrastructure will be given top priority,” he added.
Mohamad Azhan highlighted MBPJ’s interest in implementing programs that stimulate the local economy for the benefit of hawkers and low-income groups.
He stated, “Transformation programs will be initiated for low-income communities residing in high-density areas to provide social and economic support amidst the sluggish economy.”
The mayor also emphasized MBPJ’s intention to enhance digital services in the city, aiming for a 100% digital service offering.
Furthermore, he mentioned that the city council’s focus will be on prudently spending and providing services that cater to the needs of a developing city that is smart, sustainable, and resilient.
Among MBPJ’s five key areas of focus are environment and health.
In this regard, MBPJ aims to protect green areas, reduce pollution, and minimize mosquito-breeding grounds.
The city council will continue efforts to create a safe and barrier-free city through the maintenance of facilities, services, and infrastructure.
Mohamad Azhan explained that MBPJ plans to manage expenses and revenue through limited land use without imposing a burden on residents.
He also mentioned MBPJ’s aspiration to develop the city’s social landscape based on the Malaysia Madani concept.
