GEORGE TOWN: Datuk Yeoh Soon Hin, the former Penang state executive councillor, has been appointed as the chairman of Penang Port Commission (PPC). Additionally, former PPC chairman Jeffrey Chew has been appointed as the chairman of Teluk Ewa port in Langkawi (PPCTE), with both appointments effective from Feb 20. Both individuals will serve a three-year term until Feb 19, 2027.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke mentioned that His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, has given his consent for these appointments. Loke expressed hope that with these new appointments, the PPC and PPCTE will be able to achieve greater success and contribute significantly to the nation’s development.
It is important to note that PPC is responsible for regulating PPCTE. Yeoh, who previously served as the state tourism and creative economy committee chairman and was a three-term Paya Terubong assemblyman, was also appointed as the Tourism Malaysia deputy chairman in October 2023.
Chew, on the other hand, served as the PPC chairman from 2018 to 2020 during the Pakatan Harapan government’s tenure in Putrajaya. However, he stepped down from his position following the collapse of the government.
