One of the two ferry operators serving the Labuan-Menumbok-Labuan route, Juta Bonus Sdn Bhd, ceased operations on Thursday, causing inconvenience for Christmas and year-end school holiday travelers. A notice issued on Dec 28 by the operator’s ticketing management company, Binabalu Sdn Bhd, via its official Facebook page, cited unforeseen technical issues affecting its two ferries – Galaxy and Blue Ocean – as the reason for the abrupt cessation of services. It did not state when the two ferries will resume operations.

Hundreds of stranded travelers were left trying to get refunds or reschedule their trips, creating a tense and chaotic situation at the Menumbok ferry terminal as frustrations ran high. Some travelers took to social media to vent their anger and voice their grievances. The ticketing management company urged affected passengers to go to the counter to get a refund or submit a photograph of their ticket as proof for an online refund via WhatsApp at 016-8189040.

As a result of the temporary suspension of Galaxy and Blue Ocean, only four ferries – Kimanis 1, Putrajaya 1, Goodwill Star and Joystar – are currently in service. These four ferries are operated by Labuan Mainland Link Sdn Bhd. – Bernama
