The Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Sarawak, Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud, is currently recovering after falling ill while abroad, as stated by the state government.
According to Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali, the Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department, there is no need to appoint an acting Head of State at this time.
Although not physically present in the state, Abdul Taib is in constant communication with the state government and is still able to carry out his official and constitutional duties.
“The state government is regularly informed about his medical condition, and any actions taken by the government will be in accordance with the State Constitution and the best interests of the state,” said Ghazali in a statement released on Tuesday (Aug 1) – as reported by Bernama.
