Tunku Ampuan Najihah Tunku Besar Burhanuddin, the former consort of the former Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negri Sembilan Tuanku Ja’afar Tuanku Abdul Rahman, has passed away at the Cardiac Vascular Sentral Hospital in Kuala Lumpur. She was 100 years old. State secretary Datuk Mohd Zafir Ibrahim announced that she passed away at 6.53am.
Tuanku Najihah, who served as the nation’s 10th Permaisuri Agong from 1994-1999, will be laid to rest at the Seri Menanti royal mausoleum following Asar prayers today. Her remains will be placed at the Istana Besar Seri Menanti.
As a mark of respect, the state of Negri Sembilan will observe a one-day mourning period on September 8. During this time, all flags in the state will be flown at half-mast. Mosques and surau in the state are also encouraged to hold tahlil prayers during the duration.
Tuanku Ja’afar, who held the position of Yang di-Pertuan Besar from 1967 until his passing in December 2008, was the nation’s 10th Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
