Two young boys were discovered drowned in a pond at a prawn farm near their home in Kampung Sungai Emas Hujung, close to Kota Kuala Muda, on the evening of Wednesday, November 1st.
The victims have been identified as five-year-old Muhammad Aidil Adha Mohd Ali and his three-year-old cousin Muhammad Syafiq Amsyar Abdul Syahid.
Muhammad Aidil’s father, Mohd Ali Abdul Rahman, 48, recounted that he was working at the prawn farm when his wife informed him that their son and nephew had gone missing.
Mohd Ali explained that his son, who was the sixth of seven siblings, would often accompany him while he worked on the farm.
“Before the incident, I saw him and his cousin playing with their pet rabbit under the shed near the prawn pond. After a few minutes, they both disappeared, leaving only the rabbit behind,” he said.
The search for the children led to the tragic discovery of their lifeless bodies in the prawn pond after pulling up the net inside.
The victims were transported to the government clinic in Kota Kuala Muda, where they were pronounced dead.
Kuala Muda OCPD Asst Comm Zaidy Che Hassan confirmed that they received a report regarding the incident.
“The bodies of the two victims were taken to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital (HSB), Alor Setar, for a post-mortem examination,” he stated.
The case has been classified as sudden death.
