Two contractors have pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday (Sept 20) to charges of cheating a school’s board of governors in relation to repair work worth RM875,000 that was carried out three years ago. Mohd Syafeeq Mohd, 40, and Cheah Seng Nam, 48, are accused of deceiving the Board of Governors of SJKT Ladang Semenyih by pretending to be the contractors appointed by the Education Ministry. The alleged offence took place at RHB Bank Taman Midah Branch in Kuala Lumpur between Aug 27 and Oct 8, 2020.
The charges were filed under Section 420 of the Penal Code, in conjunction with Section 34 of the same law. If convicted, they could face up to 10 years in prison, whipping, and a fine.
Judge Rozina Ayob granted each defendant bail of RM20,000 with one surety and ordered them to report to the Selangor Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) office during the first week of every month. The court has scheduled a mention for Oct 5.
Mohd Aliff Shaharuzaman, the prosecuting officer from MACC, acted as the prosecutor in the case, while lawyer Ridha Abdah Subri represented both defendants. On Sept 13 of last year, the two men were also charged with committing a similar offence three years ago, which involved repair work worth over RM1.2 million.
