PUTRAJAYA: A lorry involved in an accident at KM5.7 of Jalan Persiaran Utara heading towards Puchong on Wednesday (Sept 20) resulted in two fatalities and several injuries. The incident took place at 10:15 in the morning and involved six cars, two lorries, three motorcycles, and a police outrider motorcycle. It is believed that one of the lorries collided with multiple cars that had stopped to make way for a convoy.

According to Putrajaya district police chief ACP A. Asmadi Abdul Aziz, closed-circuit television footage revealed that the lorry, coming from behind, attempted to change lanes but failed to brake in time, leading to the collision with other vehicles. Paramedics from Putrajaya Hospital and Serdang Hospital confirmed the deaths of two men at the scene.

Currently, seven other victims involved in the accident are receiving treatment at Putrajaya Hospital and Serdang Hospital. ACP A. Asmadi Abdul Aziz stated that an investigation is underway under Sec 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. The lorry driver will be detained for a urine test and further investigation, he added in a statement.

The Putrajaya Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) dispatched two engines with nine firefighters to the accident site after receiving a distress call at 10:24 am, according to a spokesperson for JBPM.
