KOTA KINABALU: A fatal accident occurred in the Beluran district when a lorry carrying fertiliser veered off the road and fell into a ravine, resulting in the deaths of two individuals. The incident took place on Thursday (July 13) at around 9am, claiming the lives of the 44-year-old lorry driver and a 25-year-old passenger. According to Beluran district police chief, Supt Kasim Muda, preliminary investigations suggest that the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to skid off the road and land upside down in the gorge. The authorities suspect brake failure as the cause of the accident, and sadly, both victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities have revealed that the lorry was heading from Lahad Datu towards the northern Paitan area in Beluran. The incident is currently under investigation in accordance with Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
