Two individuals lost their lives after a four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicle lost control and crashed into them near the Sibu-Bintulu flyover at Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman in Sibu on Friday (Dec 15).

Sibu OCPD Asst Comm Zulkipli Suhaili stated that the victims were conducting maintenance work on roadside lamp posts at 11.20am.

According to ACP Zulkipli, “A 4WD from the direction of Sibu Jaya to the town, driven by a 60-year-old man, lost control and swerved into the opposite side of the road. It happened that the two victims were there.”

He added, “The vehicle then rammed into the duo.”

One of the victims, aged 59, died at the scene, while the other, aged 27, was taken to the hospital. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries later.

The case is currently under investigation under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
