Two Malaysian students tragically lost their lives in a car crash in Christchurch, New Zealand on Saturday, according to the Foreign Ministry.
The ministry also reported that three other Malaysian students involved in the accident were airlifted to Christchurch Hospital for urgent medical treatment.
Wisma Putra stated that the High Commission of Malaysia in Wellington, along with support from the Malaysian community in Christchurch, is providing consular assistance to the victims and their families to ensure their welfare is being looked after.
If the families wish to bring back the remains of their loved ones to Malaysia, the ministry and High Commission are prepared to offer assistance, as mentioned in a statement released on Saturday.
The Foreign Ministry confirmed that the tragic accident, which involved five individuals, occurred near Lake Tekapo around 1:45pm local time.
Lake Tekapo is situated approximately 700km southwest of Wellington, the capital of New Zealand, located on the South Island.
