KUALA LUMPUR: Two men arrested for making social media posts allegedly threatening Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay.
The suspects were detained based on their social media posts, which were found to contain statements that involved criminal intimidation, according to the Bukit Aman CID director Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain.
“The first suspect, a 51-year-old man, was apprehended in Bandar Baru Bangi, while the second suspect, a 27-year-old man, was detained in Bukit Mertajam, Penang,” he stated on Saturday (Oct 28).
Both cases have been categorized under Section 507 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for the abuse of network facilities, he added.
“We urge the public to refrain from speculating on these cases as we are still in the process of investigating them,” Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain cautioned.
“Furthermore, we strongly advise the public to exercise responsible use of social media, particularly when discussing sensitive issues related to public distress and national security,” he further emphasized.
