JOHOR BARU: The police have arrested two men involved in a brawl that gained attention during the Desaru International Bike Week on Saturday (Sept 23). Johor police chief Comm Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat stated that the suspects, aged 30 and 50, were apprehended on Sunday (Sept 24) morning in Kota Tinggi and Johor Baru.

“The altercation occurred due to a misunderstanding between two groups of bikers, one from the United States and the other from a local group,” said Comm Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat.

He further explained, “There were two separate incidents. When the fight initially broke out, the police were able to intervene and prevent it from escalating. However, the suspects instigated another fight at around 9pm on the same day, resulting in several injuries. The police subsequently managed to break up the fight.” He also mentioned that 350 policemen were present at the three-day event.

Comm Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat made these statements during a press conference at the Johor police headquarters on Sunday (Sept 24).

“Three individuals, including one of the suspects, sustained minor injuries during the fight. We are still searching for other individuals connected to the incident,” he added. The police are currently investigating the total number of people involved.

The case is being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code, which pertains to rioting, according to Comm Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat.

Prior to the arrests, multiple videos of the fight at Desaru beach in Kota Tinggi went viral on social media. Some of the videos displayed individuals throwing chairs as well.
