Two men have been apprehended for allegedly defaming royal institutions on social media, according to Bukit Aman CID Director Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain. The Special Investigation Unit of the Force is currently probing two cases which led to the arrest of one suspect each, he informed. He added that the first case involved the arrest of a 41-year-old individual from Kampung Sungai Kati in Perak who operated the Flat Earth Malaysia account on Facebook. The posts made by this person were found to have insulted the Johor royal institution. In the second case, a 47-year-old individual who managed the Iman Mustaqim account on Facebook was apprehended in Langkap, Perak for allegedly uploading content that defamed the Sultan of Selangor. As per a statement issued on Thursday (Aug 31), both suspects will be remanded for three days until September 2.
Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain urged social media users to exercise caution and avoid posting statements that could disrupt harmony and unity, particularly with regards to issues concerning race, religion, and royalty (3R).
