Two fatal accidents involving motorcycles occurred in the Sook area early Sunday morning, resulting in the deaths of two men and serious injuries to another rider.
The deceased victims were identified as Rain Dahap, 26, and Juanis Uvil, 30, while the injured individual, a 23-year-old rider, suffered injuries to their face and body.
According to Keningau police chief Supt Yampil Garai, the first accident involving Rain took place at 12.15am on KM3 Jalan Sook Tulid. The victim was traveling from Sook to Tulid when he lost control of his motorcycle, causing it to crash on the roadside.
“The man sustained severe head injuries and unfortunately, he passed away on the spot,” said Supt Yampil when reached for comment.
In the second incident, two motorcyclists veered off the road while attempting to negotiate a bend at KM5 Jalan Sook Tulid around 2am.
Both riders were en route to Tulid, with one following behind the other. They both lost control while navigating the bend, ultimately crashing onto the roadside, explained Supt Yampil.
Juanis succumbed to serious head injuries at the scene, while the other motorcyclist suffered injuries to the face and body. The injured individual was promptly taken to Keningau hospital for further medical attention, and autopsies were scheduled for the deceased victims later that day.
“Both accidents are currently under investigation according to Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” added Supt Yampil.
