In Alor Gajah, the opening of two new resorts is expected to provide a significant boost to the local economy, according to a Melaka exco member.

VP Shanmugam, chairman of the state youth, sports, and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) committee, stated that the Parkroyal A’Famosa will contribute to the growth of tourism in rural Melaka and create employment opportunities for the local community.

He noted, “The hotel will have a multiplier effect on the economy and enhance the tourism industry of Alor Gajah, which is currently seen as a ‘sleepy hollow’.”

Shanmugam also mentioned that the decision by Parkroyal to invest in the property would help his constituency prosper by boosting local businesses and surrounding tourist destinations.

He added that the hotel would increase tourist arrivals to Gadek Wellness and Spa Resort, which is set to start operations early next year and expects visitors from Europe and Taiwan.

According to Shanmugam, the site has 20 rooms and eight chalets with hot spring pools on the four-hectare site.

Construction of the resort, approved under the 11th Malaysia Plan, cost RM17.9mil, said Shanmugam.

Meanwhile, the general manager of Parkroyal A’Famosa Melaka, Anthony Paul Quin, stated that the resort will offer 213 rooms and suites designed with a local touch, and trial stays will begin next month.

He also mentioned that the resort is expected to be fully operational by the first quarter of next year, with hotel room prices designed to be reasonable.

“We have an exclusive ballroom and various attractions at our hotels to complement tourist arrivals to Alor Gajah and the state as a whole,” he added.
