Both of the independent power producers (IPPs) that were temporarily shut down in the past week are now back online, providing an additional 155MW of electricity to Sabah and Labuan Grid System Operator Adrian Mosigil.
On Friday (Jan 19), Kimanis Power Sdn Bhd resumed operations, adding a total of 95MW of power to the grid. The day before, Ranhill Powertron II Sdn Bhd also resumed operations. With the resumption of operations from these two IPPs, the state’s power reserves are no longer critically low.
Mosigil expressed gratitude to both IPPs for expediting repair and maintenance works to minimize disruptions or load shedding during this period. He further stated that both SESB and IPPs in Sabah will continue to ensure the stability and consistency of power supply for consumers.
Additionally, Mosigil mentioned that SESB will release updates on electricity supply every weekday so that customers can prepare for any potential load shedding or disruptions. He also mentioned that repair works on a malfunctioning power plant at Serudong Power Sdn Bhd are expected to be completed on March 1. Once completed, it will provide an additional 11MW of power to the Sabah grid system.
