KOTA KINABALU: Two young brothers in Manggatal near here tragically lost their lives after being trapped in their house during a fire on Thursday (Sept 21).
In a devastating incident at 1pm, firefighters discovered the burnt remains of Jayraiyen Jabri, 5, and his older brother Jackron, when they extinguished the flames that had completely destroyed five other houses.
Agustavia Joe Guasi, the chief of Lintas Fire and Rescue, received an alert about the fire at 1.03pm. She immediately dispatched 35 firemen from the Lintas and Kota Kinabalu stations, along with the Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) unit, to the scene, which was approximately 18km away from the state capital.
Upon arrival, the fire was already at its peak, prompting the team to quickly begin extinguishing the inferno. According to Agustavia, “Our men discovered the bodies of the two children in the debris once they successfully put out the fire.”
She added, “A total of six houses were completely destroyed by the fire.”
Agustavia mentioned that the remains of the boys have been handed over to the police for further investigation.
The fire was eventually brought under control at 2.53pm, but firefighters continued to cool down the remaining embers with water hoses.
The entire operation concluded at 5.25pm.
Agustavia stated, “We will determine the cause of the fire as soon as possible.”
