Umno’s Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki stated that the party strongly supports the decree by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, emphasizing the importance of maintaining national harmony and avoiding sensitive issues related to race, religion, and royalty (3R). Asyraf also expressed full support for the King’s call for stringent action against anyone who undermines the sanctity of the word Allah.
Following a meeting of the Umno supreme council, Asyraf highlighted the party’s unwavering stance on matters concerning Islam’s sanctity. He urged everyone to learn from past incidents, such as the recent controversy involving socks bearing the word Allah, to prevent similar occurrences in the future. Additionally, he voiced support for Umno Youth and its chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh’s position on the issue.
Asyraf pointed out that the Mentega Terbang film, the proposal to designate Chinese new villages in Selangor as Unesco World Heritage Sites, and the socks controversy had sparked divisive debates. The party took note of these issues and their negative impact.
On March 16, KK Super Mart issued an apology for mistakenly selling socks with the word “Allah” on them. DAP Secretary-General Anthony Loke, on March 19, urged politicians to focus on building bridges during sensitive situations instead of escalating tensions. He disagreed with Akmal’s call to boycott KK Super Mart, citing the store’s apology and acknowledgment of the error.
In response, Akmal reaffirmed his stance on boycotting KK Super Mart, emphasizing the need to hold accountable those responsible for allowing the sale of such controversial items.
