MELAKA: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) apprehended nine undocumented foreigners from Indonesia near the Tanjung Rhu coastline in Selangor as they attempted to illegally enter the country. MMEA’s Melaka and Negri Sembilan director, Capt (Maritime) Iskandar Ishak, stated that a boat exhibiting suspicious movement was detected through the Malaysian Maritime Sea Surveillance System (Swasla). As a result, the MMEA’s patrol vessel intercepted and detained all the foreigners at 1am on Wednesday (Oct 18).
Iskandar explained that the boat, equipped with two 200HP engines, was spotted heading towards the shoreline before being intercepted approximately 0.7 nautical miles from Tanjung Rhu. He also mentioned that the skipper of the boat was among those apprehended.
In response to the patrol unit’s request for documentation, all of the foreigners, whose ages ranged from 23 to 47, were unable to provide any. Consequently, they were transported to a nearby jetty and subsequently handed over to the Immigration Department for further proceedings,” he added.
