Kuala Lumpur Metropolitan University College (KLMUC) has partnered with Yayasan Seri Negara (YSN) to offer RM7mil worth of scholarships to police personnel and their families who wish to study at the university. The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed by Najmie Noordin, CEO of Cosmopoint Sdn Bhd, representing KLMUC, and Amirul Fadhil Che Ismail, CEO of YSN.
As part of the same event, Tan Sri Mazlan Lazim, former inspector-general of police and patron of YSN, received an appointment letter as an Adjunct Professor at KLMUC.
Najmie explained that the scholarship, known as the Seri Negara Scholarship, aims to provide more opportunities for police personnel and their families to pursue diploma, bachelor’s degree, master’s, and doctorate (PhD) programmes at KLMUC. He mentioned that KLMUC has become an increasingly popular choice for police officers and personnel to further their studies. He also highlighted that more than 300 police graduates have chosen KLMUC, with 200 of them set to receive their degrees at the upcoming convocation ceremony on November 4th.
Najmie believes that the number of police officers choosing KLMUC will continue to rise as they recognize the importance of education for their post-retirement period and entering the corporate world. KLMUC plans to offer 300 police officers the opportunity to pursue their studies next year. The eligibility of scholarship recipients will be assessed based on criteria such as household income and courses taken.
One of the preferred courses for security forces at KLMUC is the Master of Business Administration (MBA), as it has a 12-month duration, mixed classes, and competitive tuition fees.
Mazlan acknowledged that the MOU signifies a new step for YSN, which has previously focused on social welfare for police personnel, their families, and pensioners. As the patron of YSN and an Adjunct Professor at KLMUC, Mazlan pledged to boost the morale of eligible members and encourage them to further their education for career advancement.
