PETALING JAYA: Universiti Malaya has firmly denied any association with a fake catering service order that went viral on Friday (June 7), clarifying that no such offer for immediate work was issued to the caterer.

The university has confirmed that the document featured in the viral post did not match the standard contract offer letters from Universiti Malaya.

“Universiti Malaya takes this fraudulent action seriously as it not only misuses our trademark and tarnishes the university’s image but also victimises those involved,” the university stated in a press release on Friday.

The university said it reviewed appropriate follow-up actions, including filing a police report and is considering other legal actions.

To ensure clarity, especially among businesses, Universiti Malaya advises that it only conducts transactions online through the UM Procurement and Payment Management system.

The university said that any offer that claims to be from the university could be verified by sending an email to [email protected] or by contacting 03-7967 3273. Complaints and queries could be forwarded there as well

It urged individuals or parties who were victims of such fraud to report the incident to the police.

“Universiti Malaya expresses sympathy towards the caterer involved and hopes that such incidents do not affect them in the long run,” the press release stated.

It added that for further information, call Farawahida Ismail, Public Relations Officer, at 03-7967 7009 or [email protected] Mastura Mohamad Yusoff, Media Relations Officer, at 013-3773207 or [email protected]
